What To Expect
- Anesthesia: General anesthesia is typically used to ensure comfort during the procedure.

Breast Augmentation Timeline
Initial Consultation
Patient consults with the Doctor. Patients express their desired size and the Doctor makes a recommendation based on patient wishes and the size that will give the best shape
Breast Implant Size
Patient tries on different size implants in a special bra at consultation. Doctor and patient agree on size.
Medical Assessment
At consultation, medical history is reviewed and medications and labs are ordered
3 Days Prior to Surgery
Patient receives call from office to make sure they are feeling well and go over labs
5 Nights Before Surgery
Anesthesiologist calls patient.
Day of Surgery
Patient arrives at our surgery center and surgery is performed.
7 Morning After Surgery
Patients return to the office for follow-up visit. Patients walk outside and can increase distance walking. Minimal use of arms and no repetitive movements for four days. After four days can do usual activities but no lifting for one week.
2 weeks After Surgery
Postop visit. Patients are back to work but still no heavy lifting or repetitive arm motions. Can do long distance walking but no weights for arms or legs and no core exercises.
4 Weeks After Surgery
Patient can resume jogging.
6 Weeks After Surgery
Patient can resume core exercises and arm weights progressively.
What are the first steps towards having breast augmentation surgery?

Dr. Newman feels that attention to detail is essential in achieving patient wishes for breast augmentation. He focuses on both patient evaluation and feature in surgical technique. Breast augmentation is usually performed as an outpatient. It’s recommended to take a week off from work. Minimal exercise approved for two to three weeks after breast enhancement surgery. Bruising and swelling are usually very minimal.
Breast Implants Over or Under the Muscle?
Good question. When considering breast augmentation, you have four central decisions to make.
- The size of the breast implant;
- The choice of saline vs. silicone breast implants;
- Whether to place the implants over vs. under the muscle and
- The location of the incision.
Dr. Newman will talk to you extensively about this choice of breast enlargement (boob job). When doing breast augmentation, we suggest sub muscular (under the muscle) placement. Sub muscular is best for saline implants or when your natural breast tissue is thin. Choose subglandular (over the muscle) for silicone implants or require a breast lift. For many women, either choice is a good option.
