The patient is a 29 year old woman who wished breast augmentation with gel implants. She like the roundness imparted by breast implants, wanted to improve on the symmetry of her breasts and to be a small D to D size overall. The patient examined the different types of gel implants and the different gel densities and feel of each and decided that she like the intermediate thickness/firmness gel implant called “soft touch” gel implant. It is made up of the same silicone gel in the basic inspira implant but has a longer polymer and so is slightly more firm. It has been reported that firmer gel implants may increase fullness of the upper pole of the breast and that they may have a lower rippling rate than either softer gel implants or saline implants. These facts have yet to be confirmed by rigorous studies.
At surgery, a 445 cc. soft touch gel implant was placed on the right and a 405 cc. on the left side. Postoperatively, the patient was very gratified by the improvement in symmetry and increase in roundness of her breasts. She also liked the larger size and fullness of her breast, especially the upper portion of the breast.
