EYELID SURGERY, WOMEN'S BLEPHAROPLASTY

The patient is a 42 year old woman who noted excess skin of the upper lids and puffiness of the lower eyelids. At her procedure, excess skin was removed from the upper lid and the fat of the lower eyelid was removed from inside the eyelid. The skin of the lower eyelid was smoothed with the laser. She was very happy with her cosmetic result.

Sometimes, patients with excess skin of the upper lid have a raised brow because they reflexely raise their brow to diminish the feeling of that excess skin on the lid. Simply removing the excess upper eyelid skin not only diminishes the loose skin but also causes the raised brow to descend into its normal position. So eyelid surgery not only improves a patient’s cosmetic appearance but it also rests the brow and decreases the strain of the muscles holding up the brow. The lower brow decreases the abnormally large space between the brow and lid and also, with the strain of raising the brow gone, decreases discomfort and possibly headaches from a patient keeping their brows always high.
